Fun fact! According to Car and Driver (1979), my car can pull .81 G's on a skid pad. Is that good?

Better than mine. . . but that is with stock tires.

Good, but not great. It's about what a Camry does now. On the other hand you have to remember that tires have improved greatly since then so it might do better than that these days.

I have a hard time believing a Trans Am could do that.

Not bad at all for an old car, especially one that Clarkson would have you believe can't go round corners.
Also fun fact, according to Car and Driver , my dinky little Spitfire with its 155 section tyres pulls 0.87g. That's better than a DC2 Integra Type R :)

The oldest tyres I could find for a Firebird is '83 and they are 205mm which should be the same width as your model, that with a 3,850lb car does make me skeptical...can you put up a pic of the page in the mag? Not that I don't believe you, clearly you are quoting the mag, but would be interesting to see the article!

Original tire size was 225/70/15 on 15x8 wheels I believe. Radials, not bias ply. Old tech but not archaic.
